MEET MYLA

Meet Myla, a kind human being, and a talented musician and producer from the heart of New Orleans, Louisiana. Surrounded by a world full of music, Myla grew her passion for the arts when she started piano lessons at the age of seven. Her love continued to grow as she became a music major at Xavier University of Louisiana. Today, Myla is proud to be an accomplished musician as she now resides on the West Coast leading a band and touring with some of her favorite artists of today.

The act of reflecting has the power to establish a higher level of perspective as people think back and ponder on their own lives. Through introspection, people can discover a greater sense of self as they realize the affect of their own actions towards not only others, but themselves as well. When we asked Myla what she loves most about herself, she stated, "I love that I have patience and that I have a big heart."  Oftentimes, musicians face challenges that can sometimes hinder the art itself, and without taking the time to reflect and process, the gift itself can remain neglected long-term; however, that is not Myla's story. By facing each challenge through the willingness to evolve in any situation, she has "developed an understanding that not everything is going to be perfect or go according to plan." She has learned to adapt to the different scenarios of life, and today, she uses wisdom by refusing to take things personally, which has allowed her "to have a sort of peace when dealing with challenges"–an noteworthy quality to hold.

Creatives often have the busiest schedules. They pour into the lives of others throughout the day, while using the time left to cater to  their own personal projects. â€‹

Sometimes creatives FEEL the pressure when pushing through to reach goals, and target dates. Consequently, every day is not a day full of positivity and happiness, and that is ok. However, there are ways to stay motivated to see the vision through to completion. Myla believes that motivation appears through the act of living. Through life itself, no matter the place or the time, there is always a silver lining to discover; therefore, no matter what, she makes sure to keep moving forward. To move forward, she reflects on her actions  and asks herself questions such as, "What can I try now? How can I be better? Who am I as a creator?" She expresses how she maintains a healthy level of motivation as she states, "Art always evolves, and I am committed to seeing that evolvement through." There is a time for everything–a time to reflect, a time to play, a time to cry, and a time to shout, but there is also a time to move forward. It is ok to feel the pressure and take a break. After all, rest is essential. Yet still, remember to take hold of the time to move forward.

As a creative, there also may be a time to set boundaries. Myla shares her thoughts regarding the balance of mental health,"As I get older, I really value the importance of maintaining a balanced mental health lifestyle. I achieve that now through setting strict boundaries for myself by making time to do the things I enjoy, and perhaps less of things that I do not enjoy." Making time for the things you enjoy creates a space of authenticity. It says that you're not not just a creative, a producer, an artist, but you're a real person who wants to take a walk, play the game, or just do absolutely nothing for the day. Myla is grateful for the present, and she is thankful to her family and friends who never discouraged her from doing anything that she envisioned and believed for herself.

We asked Myla if she could share some advice with the world today, including the youth–our future creatives, and she kindly stated, "I will always say be kind. Also make time to do the things that you want to do. We cannot go back in time so be wise with your choices and move with intention"–wonderful.

We thank you Myla for making time for us and for being the artist that the world needs today.
